Estimating the number of disjoint edges in simple topological graphs via cylindrical drawings

چکیده
A topological graph drawn on a cylinder whose base is horizontal is angularly monotone if every vertical line intersects every edge at most once. Let c(n) denote the maximum number c such that every simple angularly monotone drawing of a complete graph on n vertices contains at least c pairwise disjoint edges. We show that for every simple complete topological graph G there exists ∆, 0 < ∆ < n, such that G contains at least max{ n ∆ , c(∆)} pairwise disjoint edges. By combining our result with a result of Tóth we obtain an alternative proof for the best known lower bound of Ω(n 1 3 ) on the maximum number of pairwise disjoint edges in a simple complete topological graph proved by Suk. Our proof is based on a result of Ruiz-Vargas.

Anti-forcing number of some specific graphs
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple connected graph. A perfect matching (or Kekul'e structure in chemical literature) of $G$ is a set of disjoint edges which covers all vertices of $G$. The anti-forcing number of $G$ is the smallest number of edges such that the remaining graph obtained by deleting these edges has a unique perfect matching and is denoted by $af(G)$. In this paper we consider some specifi...
متن کاملDisjoint Edges in Topological Graphs
A topological graph G is a graph drawn in the plane so that its edges are represented by Jordan arcs. G is called simple, if any two edges have at most one point in common. It is shown that the maximum number of edges of a simple topological graph with n vertices and no k pairwise disjoint edges is O (
متن کاملTopological Drawings of Complete Bipartite Graphs
Topological drawings are natural representations of graphs in the plane, where vertices are represented by points, and edges by curves connecting the points. Topological drawings of complete graphs and of complete bipartite graphs have been studied extensively in the context of crossing number problems. We consider a natural class of simple topological drawings of complete bipartite graphs, in ...
متن کاملAll Good Drawings of Small Complete Graphs ∗
Good drawings (also known as simple topological graphs) are drawings of graphs such that any two edges intersect at most once. Such drawings have attracted attention as generalizations of geometric graphs, in connection with the crossing number, and as data structures in their own right. We are in particular interested in good drawings of the complete graph. In this extended abstract, we descri...
متن کاملImproved enumeration of simple topological graphs
A simple topological graph T = (V (T), E(T)) is a drawing of a graph in the plane where every two edges have at most one common point (an endpoint or a crossing) and no three edges pass through a single crossing. Topological graphs G and H are isomorphic if H can be obtained from G by a homeomorphism of the sphere, and weakly isomorphic if G and H have the same set of pairs of crossing edges. W...
